Occupational Therapy at Find the Spark

Welcome to Pediatric Occupational Therapy—Right at Home

Every child has a unique way of experiencing and navigating the world. Through a comprehensive, in-home evaluation, we look closely at your child’s sensory systems to discover their natural strengths and understand where they might be experiencing roadblocks.

Sensory processing challenges can ripple into many areas of a child's day-to-day life. It can affect their bilateral motor coordination (using both sides of the body together), their praxis (the ability to plan, organize, and execute movements in space), their emotional responses, and their independence with daily routines. Because every child’s nervous system is wired differently, one child might be overly sensitive to sensory inputs (sensory defensiveness), while another might need intense input just to register it (a high threshold)—and many children experience a mix of both.

Why We Say "Play is a Child's Work"

If you watch an in-home therapy session, it might look like your child is simply playing in their usual environment. But beneath the surface, a highly complex, scientific process is unfolding.

Play is the primary way children learn, grow, and interact with the world around them.

When a child is genuinely motivated and having fun, their brain chemistry shifts into an optimal state for learning and building new neural pathways. By bringing therapy into your home, we transform familiar spaces into an inviting playground of hidden, therapeutic challenges.

During a session, the therapist is constantly evaluating your child's responses in real-time—subtly adapting the activities, grading the challenges, and weaving in your child’s personal interests and own toys to keep them self-driven.

Turning Everyday Spaces into Progress

In-home therapy means we don't use a one-size-fits-all approach or rely on specialized clinic-only gyms. Instead, we use your child's actual environment—their bedroom, the living room rug, the backyard, or the kitchen table—to practice real-world skills where they matter most. Every single game, household object, or movement activity is chosen or adapted for a highly specific therapeutic purpose.

Through this purposeful, play-based intervention in their natural environment, we lay the neurological foundation for:

  • Self-Regulation: Helping your child feel calm, focused, and organized at home and during family transitions.

  • Postural Control & Strength: Developing the core stability needed for sitting at the dinner table, floor play, or climbing stairs.

  • Praxis & Sequencing: Planning out multi-step tasks like getting dressed, packing a backpack, or following a morning routine.

  • Fine Motor & Eye-Hand Coordination: The precision required for handwriting, using utensils, manipulating buttons, and opening snack containers.

  • Social-Emotional Growth: Building confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections within the family dynamic.
